Zhang Daqian (1899-1983) a hanging scroll, in ink and colour on paper depicting a scholar on a wide flattened rock serenely seated in white flowing robes playing the qin on his lap, his bright blue slippers sit behind him, the figure beneath jutting rockwork and long gnarled pine branches with green foilage, surrounded on all sides by strong foaming waves, signed and with two seals -- 45½in. x 18 5/8in. (115.5cm. x 47.3cm.).
