Entitled, inscribed and signed, with four seals of the artist Dated second month, gengshen year (1980) Dedicated to Zejun & Zengyun for their eightieth birthdays In the upper colophon, the painting is dedicated to Zejun (Zhang Daqian's good friend Zhang Zejun) and his wife. This painting was a gift to celebrate Zhang Zejun's eightieth birthday. Strong colours of red and green dance amongst each other, where the red plum blossoms are a symbol for progeny and the green bamboo implies blessings for many grandchildren. Zhang Zejun also transcribed the famous book on calligraphy by Sun Guoting (684-703), for which Zhang Daqian wrote the inscription.
