Rembrandt Harmensz. van Rijn Saint Jerome reading in an Italianate Landscape (B., Holl. 104; H. 267) etching and drypoint, circa 1653, watermark Foolscap with Seven- pointed Collar (Hinterding Q-b), a superb impression of this rare and important plate, second, final state, printing with much burr to the lion's mane, the foliage beyond and the figures by the bridge, with considerable tone and horizontal wiping marks in the sky and elsewhere, trimmed on the platemark, the platemark accentuated with touches of pen and ink, a few pale foxmarks, generally in very good condition, framed S. 262 x 213 mm.
