Augustus Edwin John (1878-1961) Portrait of the Artist: Tête Farouche (Campbell Dodgson 10) etching, circa 1906, on laid paper. with a partial watermark of a figure balancing on a ball, the second, final state, with much inking left on the plate, signed in black ink, from the standard edition of 25 (the wiping of each impression varies), the sheet, with a deckle edge on two sides, time-staining, a 2 mm. fox spot in the beard, three fox marks measuring 2 mm. each in the upper margin, a 2 mm. nick at the lower right sheet edge, other minor surface defects P. 218 x x 175 mm., S. 290 x 232 mm.
