Marc Chagall (1887-1985) Nicolai Gogol: Les Ames Mortes the complete set of 96 etchings and 11 etched vignettes, 1948, on Arches wove paper watermarked Les Ames mortes, the etchings hors-texte, with title page, text in French and justification, signed in black ink and numbered 125 on the justification, from the edition of 335 (there were also 33 hors commerce copies numbered in Roman numerals), published by Tériade, Paris, the full sheets, some etchings with minor staining, otherwise in good condition, loose (as issued), in two volumes, within paper wrappers with title printed in black on front, within the original cream paper-covered boards and slipcase, with title on spine, the paper wrappers with foxing, the slipcase showing some wear, stains and foxing (portfolio) (overall) 400 x 300 x 118 mm.
