The recipient of this painting is the noted agriculture scholar, Shen Zonghan (Shen Chung-han, 1895-1980), who once served on the Commission on Rural Reconstruction. His son, Shen Chun-shan (born 1932), is a renowned physicist and former head of National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan.
