L'Apparition (Mannocci 5)

Claude Gellée, called Claude Lorrain (1604-1682) L'Apparition (Mannocci 5) etching, circa 1630, watermark Fleur-de-Lys in a crowned Circle (M. 15a; similar to Haewood 1632, Rome, early 17th cent.), a very fine, early impression of Mannocci's very rare first state A (of five), before the scratches which occur already in later impressions of the first state, very similar to the impression in the Bibliothèque Nationale, but apparently more tonal, with narrow margins, in very good condition P. 104 x 171 mm., S. 108 x 173 mm.
