MARY CASSATT Costume Study after Gavarni: three states (Breeskin 2) three etching, drypoint and aquatints, circa 1878 or earlier, all on laid paper, a fascinating and revealing progression from the conventionally drawn early state to the experimental resolution, Breeskin's first, second and third (final) states, all with margins, all with surface soiling, (third state) with a small skinned nick in the center image (with associated ink loss), (first state) with a pinhole in the upper margin and a pressure mark just below the left plate corner, all with pale time staining, soiling and tape remains in places on the reverse, otherwise all in good condition all P. 8 x 5 3/8 in.
